Assessment

At Morley Meadow Primary we believe that every child can achieve and that assessment is an integral part of high quality teaching and learning.

Assessment helps us ensure that our teaching meets the needs of all learners and that children are making strong, expected progress across the curriculum, enabling them to achieve their full potential.

Our assessment strategies provide frequent, quick opportunities for teachers to reflect on children’s learning. They help us to identify pupils’ thinking, strengths, and next steps. Through ongoing assessment, we can determine whether we need to extend, adapt, or reinforce aspects of the curriculum so that every child is supported to make progress.

The Three Components of Assessment

Assessment for Learning
Classroom-based assessment that supports ongoing interaction between teachers and learners. It provides immediate information that helps teachers adapt teaching in the moment, maximising engagement, effort and participation for all pupils.

Assessment as Learning
Strategies that actively involve pupils in understanding and monitoring their own progress. This encourages learners to reflect on what they know, identify their next steps and take increasing responsibility for their learning.

Assessment of Learning
Planned, cumulative and diagnostic assessment that evaluates learning over time. This helps us understand how well pupils have learnt and retained knowledge within the curriculum domain.
