School Council
At Morley Meadow, our School Council is designed to give children some ownership of the issues that are important to them in their school.
Two children from each class are chosen by their classmates to represent their views on how to make the school an even better place in which to be educated. Upon election, they are presented with a School Council badge which they can wear with pride on their uniform.
As members of the School Council, the children commit to the following:
- I come to school regularly and on time.
- I am a good role model to other pupils.
- I will be able to attend the meetings.
- I try my best every day.
- I show respect to everyone around me.
- I take responsibility for my actions.
- I am proud of our school and want to make it even better.
Children meet regularly with Mrs Mathews to discuss ways forward, and to explain reasons behind certain courses of action. This is a vital element in our PHSE Citizenship Programme.
Lunch Choices September 2024 - The first task for our new school council was to go back to their classes and decide if the children would like to swap the usual sandwich option on the school lunch menu for a hot Panini during the winter months. The children came back with a resounding yes!
Harvest 7th October 2024 - the school council helped to set up the harvest donations display and put out the chairs. They then helped to bag up all the donations at the end with our visitor, Hilary Knight, from Plymouth Soup Run.
Children in Need 15th November 2024 - Today, as part of "The Great Spotacular", the children enjoyed Pudsey biscuits, went on a treasure hunt to find Pudsey Bears around the school, wore their Spotty Clothes and did Spot kicks against Lily Felgate, The Plymouth Argyle Ladies Goalkeeper! They all had great fun and raised £371 for Children in Need.
Santa Run - 20th December 2024 - We arranged a Fun Run on the last day of term to raise funds for Children's Hospice South West. Children came to school in Christmas-themed MUFTI and each class took it in turns to do a 2km Run/Jog/Walk whilst bringing cheer in Christmas gear! Everyone had great fun and we raised a massive £628!
February 2025 - Outdoor Library
Following three successful book sales and donations from a parent, the PTA and the Freemasons we have finally raised the money to get an outdoor library for the playground to be used by the whole school at break and lunchtime. This was a great way to recycle unwanted books from home, whilst raising the funds. The library will be great for those children who enjoy a quieter time or enjoy sharing books with others. We can't wait for it to arrive!
May 2025 - Lunchtime Menus
The new council were tasked with discussing new lunch menus with their classmates ready for September. There were two menus on offer, Traditional and Around The World, and the winning menu was Around The World. A great way to teach children about democracy and a fair vote.
